Magic Pink Pond

Wooden Shadow Box 11 1/2 x 13 1/2"....Vintage Foil picture..iridescent dragonfly stickers, silver & mylar ornament ball, rolled foil party hats, strips of foil scrapbook papers, a stem of vintage peach fabric wire flowers with a string of beads & foil decor wrapped around them, silver iridescent wrapping paper, one majenta bead, etc..unite to create "Magic Pink Pond"...

This art box began with the stunning foil Fairy picture. The little blonde fairy with pink gerberlike flowers in her hair leans over a tiny circular pond. Her gossamer wings almost seem to be fluttering from all the light that is reflected from the various materials used. Her dress is shaped like an upside down trumpet flower. My mother gave me this picture many years ago, and now that I am a "nana" to Baby Elizabeth (3 months old), this art is a gift to her.

The cut & rolled pieces of Blue Foil party hats give depth to the box--and on the lower left corner, a silver sequin iridescent ball lends a magic touch to the scene. Dragonflies never need any explanation.

Hidden Moon Cove

Canvas, net, earrings, shells, crescent moon box lid & bottom, vintage jewelry, shells, beads, rhinestones, vintage calendar scene, wire, metal angel pin, tulle, petite wire bead flowers, 80's gold star pin, etc...create the Hidden Moon Cove scene.

My son started an acrylic sailboat/cliff/tree/rough waters 16 x 20 canvas painting. It has now become a mixed media work of art. The crescent moon lidded box is separated for two purposes. The bottom encloses an enchanted scene of characters in a box (& rabbit) in a boat going thru aquatic flowers toward a magic place. A curious fish hangs above them. Shells, miniature glass bottle w. wee hot pink stars, jewels, etc...are in the foreground. A silvery net flies the moonboat. It is flagged with a vintage cloth label 'heart soul', pearly twisted icicle, silver hand, jeweled earring, shishkabob stick...and an 80's star pin smiles knowingly behind the sail.

The sailboat in the painting has been finished with a silvery pearlescent shell. Right below it floats another shell sailed boat, anchored to the dark painted rocks. On the left side, a high cliff brags a proud pine topped with a brass compasslike jewel.

The overlooking crescent moon flourishes an angel in his eye and stars on his upper & lower points. An intricate shell (quite old) suggests solar power.

I loved working with the fiery sky, vivid blues, and cold rock gray greens to tell a story with the painting my son began and I finished (with his permission, of course).

Just Egg-a-licious

Open scallop shadowbox frame, vintage noisemaker, wooden egg, laminated egg illustrations, the inside of a bead-game illustration (Just Desserts), cut-out desserts, candles, fork,'Hershey Fridge Magnet', miniature ball w. bell gathered for this whimsical art sculpture/shadowbox.

It all began with the 'Just Desserts' bead game box. I formed a bench from this back piece in the game for the monacle egg & perched dessert on his head. The full dimension wooden egg with webbed feet wears a teaspoon on his head. I painted the face & bow tie on the once-plain egg. A spiral ornament gives the wide-eyed egg a precarious balance as he springs forth with the cake. On the outer frame a long-handle fork holds a "bite" and the vintage New Year noisemaker claps the Egg-a-licious group.

Measures approx. 12 x 12"

Beach Trek

Gold Sun pin, 1 pearl earring, beads, small 4x4 footed glass & metal case, lidded magnifying box, wire, feaux pearls...brought together for this mixed media art box/sculpture.In the 1980's I wore the beach couple (in the clear magnifying box)earrings! They measure approx. 3/4". This is the highlight of the artwork...quite amusing to enlarge them through the lens. The rest of the items accentuate the beach fun.

bedtime sweet dreams

Wooden glass-paned box, pottery sculpture of baby with bear, metal punched star, wooden hinged bears, acrylic crescent moon & star, pedestal, wire, and vintage card with bear climbing the stairs...........compose this art sculpture by Sherry Candy Lane.

The pottery sculpted baby began this artwork. The bear card is placed on back pane of the box to lure baby up to dreamland. The box keeps the child snuggled. Pedestal with moon, stars and bears symbolize baby's happy dreams.

Measures approx. 16" high x 4" deep.

moonbirds art sculpture

Wood, metal, Ceramic, Tulle, Glass, Twigs gathered together to create this Moonbird mixed media art sculpture by Sherry Candy Lane.

The stars came out to light the way for the crescent moon's reach for white night birds. Charmed by the luna they mated, picked a proud star to twinkle over the metallic blue cloud grass protecting a glass cobalt blue egg. Who knows what the new tweet will look like. Perhaps it will chirp for cheese & milky ways.

Original inspiration for this artwork came when I observed a shadow shaped like a crescent moon with its lower point extending to hold a bird. In all honesty I was at Mass on a Sunday--the crucifix, the St. Anthony Statue, etc...were lit up and somehow these shadows projected from them on the wall behind the altar. So I knew I wanted to create a moon (I love moons) holding birds and a nest.

A wooden birdhouse in the background blends in with the attached wooden moon. The sculptured hand was added for the bird nest. One bird is ceramic and the other is resin with wire legs. The tulle gives a charming touch for the expectant moonbirds.

mermaid daydreams

In a mermaid size bubble deep in the ocean a mermaid perches. She dreams of a place in a different land and imagines how she hopes to be transformed. Charms, terranium globe, beads, antique green metal carved pedestal, faux pearls, bronze mermaid, rhinestones, and sepia-toned mermaid image found on Google entwine the mystical sphere for this mermaid globe sculpture.

Crystal Woods

Gnomes and Crystals, deer, beads, gems, hand-carved little people, and jeweled tree trunks, amber perfume jar, faceted mushroom glass pair, empty diamond-shape perfume bottle, etc...entail this magical forest encounter. The framed swedish 1980's card began the sculpture. Its union with the graceful shaped iron/bird frame gave the circular base a flowing pattern. The wooden hand has been waiting in my eclectic collection for many years for its home. Now it holds the crystal treasure.

Merwell

Pearl-covered bottles, sea glass, picturesque shells,
beads, Florida souvenir, and more tempted the mermaid to dream

awhile. She poses in a cobalt blue & lime yellow glass in the setting of a composed mermaid well. Her fins encompass a starfish.

I actually found the mermaid on Ebay--she is a resin-cast sea creature...the inspiration for this mixed sea sculpture. I may have to add a netting detail over the well area.

The diameter is approx. 12-15"

McCoy Mermaid

Mixed media Shadowbox created by Sherry Candy Lane. Inspired by the McCoy shell. Composed of shells, beads, the little sleeping mermaid, a bottle titled "Pieces of Twilight", rhinestones, turquoise, etc..all the splendid sea trinkets accumulated over many years of flea markets, travels to beaches, and recycled gifts.

The little mermaid is snuggled into the McCoy shell..her own ocean cove. She is placed so that her fin overhangs...

Sailor's Hope

Sailor's Hope, a mixed media shadowbox has just been created. Its inspiration began with the old Tobacco Tin. It is composed of metal, wire, wood, shells, glass, etc..The silver crocheted bag sets an interesting background. Colors of red, yellow, and blue in the foreground of the box reflect the tin painting. A miniature mirror pane with a lighthouse etched on it is on the left side panel. A ship-in-a-bottle is appropo. The woman holds binoculars. I have highlighted that mood with an attached prism monocular, which one can pick up and use to see all the details in multiples. The red umbrella is made from a cone-shaped wire gizmo & lid that was detached to hold the monocular. The umbrella is filled with red spun glass.
