Count That Day Lost

"Count That Day Lost" is a mixed media Shadowbox created by Sherry Candy Lane. The wooden Box measures 8 1/2" square.

Words around the antique tool read: Count That Day Lost Whose Low Descending Sun Views From Thy Hand No Worthy Action Done.

The artist spent her childhood growing up on her grandparents' farm...putting this tool up for a good example came very easy for her. Her great grandfather, in fact, was a barnbuilder. The tool, used for barnbuilding, is shapely & uncomplicated. The well-used, wooden handle has a great patina from sweat & hard work. The position it's displayed takes the viewer's eye to a new level. The 'sun' is one of a pair of outrageous 1980's earrings that the artist once wore! It's gold and irridescent & reflective. The texture in the background of the box floor adds to the movement of the piece. A touch of guilding says "truth".

Pink Happy Time

"Pink Happy Time" is a whimsical mixed media shadowbox created by Sherry Candy Lane. The artist has visited Bermuda many times over the years, with her family; so this artwork fell together with sentiment & humor. The words 'pink' 'happy' 'time' blend in the theme. Trimminghams novelty, wooden plaque hails the island shopping. Her large family is represented with the pig-tailed girl, crawling baby, etc... Visitors pay no attention to the family's happy escapade.

Baubles, beads, shells, pins, & a puppy push puppet on wooden base add to the British Island venture.
On the right side of the shadowbox, a 1980's illustrated card gives depth to the scene, as well as more fun.....a girl's skirt & legs & shoes walk along the tops of Bermuda-like Main Street....Pigtails & chubby legs & black shoes mimic the card story....and on this side, a wooden, vintage cat push puppet hangs in for involvment.
This artwork measures 6" high x 15" wide.

Gypsy Polka Dot Dream

Sweet little angel girl sleeps & the "Gypsy Polka Dot Dream" surrounds her large wooden bed. This mixed media, Whimsical Art Piece, has been created by Sherry Candy Lane. In her travels, so many interesting items has accumulated & now gather to become a part of the Polka Dot Dream....a wooden, carved flute from London, a 1980's illustrated card of the gypsy piper on the beach luring the striped & polka dot creatures. Bold blacks & whites, blackberry purple, midnight blue, peach add to the luster of this tale.
Precious little girl's dream is not scary--as you can tell from the Wooden Flute's expression.
Floral twined painting on the bedposts & checkered bedding make a very special bed. Rhinestone threads drape from the Silly Zebra, while the little zebra poses on a prism box. A jumbo polka dot ball adds to the drama, center stage.
This art piece measures 12" wide x 15" high. Flanking the piper's beach entrance is a metal happy sun on the left and a wooden jaunty cat (one of a pair of earrings). Blue metallic grass snuggles under objects, along with iridescent glaze. A ribbonned & beaded tassel hangs from the left, front bedpost.
The sweet felt doll girl holds her teddy and rests on a fine cork & china hand.

The "dream" word says it all--top center--as well as the huge black & white button acquired on Ebay--from a Canadian Seller.

Above and Below H Two O

"Above and Below H Two O" is a whimsical mixed media shadowbox created by Sherry Candy Lane. It measures 9" wide x 15" high. Wooden frame...glass face. About 2" deep. Beautiful girl is barely wet--the 1980's long-saved illustrated card has been waiting for its moment to shine. Sherry has a lot of fun by barely dipping the figure & yet still gives the illusion of Above & Below participation in the elements.

Above, the illustrated creature-filled tree has been re-created by the artist with similar butterflies, pheasant-like birds, feathers, & fabric embellishments. A touch of the underwater pattern teases the viewer to keep the two scenes related with the use of the triangular, orange, 1970's optical illusion pin...(a second one used in lower left section of water scene..)
Below is the simple, yet alluring water scene. A splash of tiny seashells helps the eye dive below. A light blue section made from sheer, fabric floral wrap paper brings depth to the waters, partially hiding & shadowing colorful fishes. Shell pins, wooden fish pin, petite shells, beads, & a brass fish on the ocean floor bring gentle dimensions to this whimsical adventure.

Hula Tree Magic

"Hula Tree Magic" is a mixed media art sculpture/shadowbox created by Sherry Candy Lane. It measures approx. 6 1/2" wide x 13" high. Wooden box coves a long-saved 1980's illustrated card, perfectly in tune with the magic happening in this art piece.

Wooden, carved hula girl dances...island waves and moonlight reflect her rhythmic language....enticing the surreal tree to match with a splendid figure of its own.

Merbabies Wonderwater Nursery

"Merbabies Wonderwater Nursery"
Mixed Media Artpiece by Sherry Candy Lane

Merbabies' Waterworld began with the 1980's illustrated greeting card...seen top center, embellished with narrow mylar ribbon & cushioned with yellow green luminescent shreds of artificial seagrass.
The glass shadowbox measures approx. 8" wide, 4 1/2" deep, & 12" high.
Circles of Merbaby life flow....an open, clear plastic bubble sets two baby nursery scenes...floating on top of a plush pile of pearlescent & silver ocean beaded "sand"...
A carved shell bed charms to sleep a vintage cupie merbaby covered with satin & tulle bedding..sprays of water beads sprout in the sea grass touching a green glass buoy & ocean blue sequins....Lucite napkin rings (top sides) add to the wavery scape of ocean waters.

What a serene, enchanted merbaby nursery.

Fairy Wink

The Party has started--but don't blink twice....A whimsical fairy mixed media shadowbox created by Sherry Candy Lane...begins, as is her custom, with a 1980's illustrated card, saved and used just for this Secret Fairy Party. The boy has chanced upon the festivities...decorations are out...the eensy cake is ready...fairy candles are in abundance..garlands are up...
...a genie lamp has granted the wish...background is a magnificent sample of very detailed gift wrap...a trinket cluster of keys, crescent moons, etc..has been hung by one of the little people..best of all is the child's look of delight!
This mixed media shadowbox measures 10" x 12."
A knife & fork & spritepot await--it can't be long now because the candles have already been lit....Look! Lower left forefront....one of the glowing, winged creatures has arrived.

Tin Salmon Mermaid

"Tin Salmon Mermaid" is a mixed media sculpture created by Sherry Candy Lane. The hollow, lightweight metal fish is a good catch for the art piece. Colorful in deep green, salmon, & beach tan, the 9" x 15" , the wide-mouthed fish sails with a shapely mermaid. She rides carefree & without even holding on.
Artificial seaweed, pearly & textured shells, a carved goldfish, rattan netting, beads, ribbon & fabric trim, & the jaunty maid make their mark in this whimsical sculpture tale.

Green McCoy Lady

"Green McCoy Lady" is a mixed media art piece by Sherry Candy Lane. She is proudly put together....A real McCoy pot, turned upside down is her skirt. For a waistline, Sherry used a lucite sheer green napkin holder.

Green McCoy Lady's bust was found on Ebay--a german-made antique pin cushion porcelain figure.

A dainty porcelain flower necklace has been dis-assembled to use as gown embellishment & on the green hat. A peacock feather (one of a matching pair of the artist's ) adorns the hat as well. A frilly wire-ribbon poufy bow adds drama to the sash.

Iridescent glue&glitter drape around her neck and all the way from front bosom to the tip of her dress.

She measures 4 3/4" across base x 8" high.

Moon Tea Lullaby

A blue lidded hat box has been converted into this whimsical "Moon Tea Lullaby" mixed media shadowbox. As this versatile artist does with many of her works, a 1980's illustrated card begins the moon song. She just goes along with the music & supplies more objects from many years of travels to tag sales, estate sales, a former flower shop business, flea markets, & sentimental pieces.

In the background, a crescent moon man is in bed, covered with quaint quilt & sipping on a steaming cup of tea. Metallic stars border left. A teapot sets on a shapely wicker tray.

Now the whimsical fun begins. Mimicking the illustration, a paper mache gold-tinted moon has been given dimension with paper bag string arms & clay-shaped gloves. His eyes come to life with bead inserts. He holds matching stars from the sky & with his right arm he is soothing a sweet little celestial child asleep on a gold pillow. In the backdrop, 3 pajama-capped crescent heads on a stick are falling asleep too.

In the foreground, stars & trinkets line up. A happy Crescent Moon with a very detailed face dangles top center.
For a more in-depth view, the gold tulle curtain can be turned aside.
This moon sculpture measures 10" diameter x approx. 13" high x 5" deep. The curtain of tulle is tied at the top with a long strand of midnight blue sequins.

Double Bubble Reef Pop

"Double Bubble Reef Pop" is a whimsical mixed media art/shadowbox created by Sherry Candy Lane. 1980's greeting card (shown above) is the inspiration behind the design....red lipstick, red nail polish, red bubble wand....a vertical, smaller cut-out of her profile doubles the pop...(mid-level, right side).

A 1980's earring mini-pic--vivid rainbow, iridescent reflections over the water...bubbles in the foreground...

Measures 11" square--wooden box--pastel blue frame--glass pane.

A pale yellow, acrylic, & square-segmented magnifying sheet is placed directly behind the glass pane & gives an optical illusion style to the shadowbox.

3 rainbow-type buttons are placed over illustrated bubbles & an authentic bright orange bubble wand is displayed across the bottom.

Knotty Passage

"Knotty Passage"...a whimsical mixed media art piece by Sherry Candy Lane began with the wooden & very "forest" detailed frame. Combine this with a belief in forest creatures...night happenings unknown to human creatures...gnomes...elves...fairies...in their hidden existence...This intrigue has evolved into a glimpse for you....enjoy the presentation.
The border of the forest is congested with berries, leaves, tree pins, crescent moon brooch, metal sketched face, and much more. Overseer is a gnome sculpture/wood....he smiles with all the knowledge that only he has about the D O O R in the old sycamore tree.
Beads, Rings, Trinkets, Red-etched leaves, & transparent dragonflies (fairies?) hover.
Weave your own tale...treasures? festivities? initiations? another more-interesting world...behind the amber scaped DOOR...in the foreground, gold-framed amber brooch, vivid forest flowers, & a chipmunk carved by a fellow sculptor...Best of all, the 1980's illustrated card, saved for this special occasion, blends into the rite of passage....a mighty interesting, winged, pointy-eared lamp carrier entices anyone daring enough to enter...
View of lower left corner...A wee two-toothed gnome nestles behind the jumbo diamond ring & wire-woven beaded flower...Tiger eye treasure to his right...and a paper-winged red-bodied dragonfly...

This work measures 12" x 15".

Tarry-A-Bit Fairies

Tarry-A-Bit Fairies, a whimsical mixed media shadowbox by Sherry Candy Lane. The idea originated with the found box & with the secret life I know Fairies have. Here is the inside, left side view of some illusive captured winged creatures. They continue to thrive, even though under scrutiny.
The key is close at hand--they can come and go as they please since they know the secret password.

A 1980's fairy card has been saved all these years and now has its purpose. Under glass & bordered with tiny beads & sparkly whatnots. The girl blows the magic wand & billows delightful fairyfolk dance in the night air. One blue such has been hooked for a bit to spend some time in the box.

Inside, left side, full view...frivolous, dancing, singing, making music, writing poetry, playing games, carefree, & seriously nonsensical fairies Tarry-A-Bit.
Laminated paper illustration displayed inside. One iridescent fairy bathes under a bright red flower shower of sweet nectar.

Measures 8" wide x 9 3/4" high.
